RUFF! offers one-on-one book coaching from our founder, Jessie Campbell. We started offering this service when some of our author clients commented on how they appreciated the nurturing advice paired with unflinching incisiveness that comes from every edit Jessie touches.

From Jessie, your book coach

As your writing coach, I’ll provide accountability, which is a key ingredient to get you unblocked and help you follow through with your intentions to get closer to achieving the results you desire. I’ll offer you the support, understanding, and guidance you need to finally transform procrastination and feelings of overwhelm and not being good enough into true growth. I’ll serve as an honest sounding board for your ideas and help you incorporate them into how you invest your time. I’ll champion your dreams and help you discover shifts in thinking to stretch you out of your comfort zone and into a fresh perspective on both writing and life. Overall, I’ll guide, support, encourage, and challenge you to be more successful.

Weekly 60-minute phone or video sessions to discuss the current professional and personal issues you identify as what you need to work on
High-level developmental and structural advice on all elements of your story to help you finish the book you dream of—the book that's already in you
Strategy suggestions to help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be
Regular progress assessment
Specific goal setting and regular check-ins to clarify and refocus on achieving the results you most desire
Occasional assignments to do between coaching sessions to maximize your potential or hack your productivity habits
Reminders to celebrate success
Analysis of any setbacks for lessons learned
Objective assessments to help you expand your self-awareness and self-control

Price

$75

/hour

which covers email support, live coaching sessions, material prep and feedback between sessions (editing of manuscripts charged separately per our pricing schedule)

After you finish

Once you have a finished manuscript in hand, we’ll turn it over to RUFF!’s team of experienced editors for developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading services—or head straight for a submission critique package to start submitting to agents and traditional publishers! You’ll be able to get fresh sets of eyes on your work from multiple qualified editors who all work under the same metaphorical roof so you don’t have to start over fresh for each round of editing. We work as a tight-knit team to ensure we’re all aligned with our authors’ voice and vision to make the entire process as seamless for you as possible.

You can choose to pause book coaching during this process or we could keep it up as you work on more drafts. One coaching client bounces back and forth between two different series to keep things fresh while each completed manuscript cascades through our team in each round of editing. We can do this for you too.
